Friends of Photography

Friends of Photography [5] is a monthly appearance of someone from my world of photography. People that have a photostream that I like, or that I frequently interact with or have somehow a distinct style. The title of this post was inspired on a project of a friend from photography. This 'idea' came into my mind because lately I find myself wanting to share more than just my photos. Who knows if you could be the next one represented here! I bring to you 2 photos from the photographer, my words about the author and a special text made by each month guest. I hope you enjoy this project as much as I.

Hugo Gamelas | The choice of this month returns to Portugal. To be honest I don't have much to say about Hugo, only that in general I like his photos. In my opinion his photography is very simple, very clean and without pretensions. Basically I choose him because of this motives. He photographs his family, street, cultural events like plays and shows, places that he visits, landscapes and urbex&decay. People are well present in his photography. Hugo's photostream is not small, so I recommend you to see his work through the flickr pages or go directly to his sets and see which "style" you may prefer. Another reason to have chosen Hugo is because he uses film, shoots analog, which can be a reference to those who use film.

I won’t talk about myself in the third-person because it’s not my thing at all. I’ll start by clarifying that I do not consider myself a photographer, but a photography lover.
Born and raised in Aveiro Portugal, as a child photography was nothing more than the everyday snapshot of the holidays and special occasions that my parents were taking, which was not at all too appealing to me.
Being a musician and working in the world of entertainment, photography has always been there and was important for me as a viewer / consumer, but until relatively recently I had not yet discovered the pleasure of photographing. After a few nights out to shoot with a good friend I was "hooked" and began to eagerly explore the technical and artistic aspects of photography, at the beginning mainly night photography.
Over time buying old manual lenses for use in digital camera bodies, led me to discover analogue photography. Currently about 90% of the shots I take are analog, and I enjoy all stages of the process from taking the shot to developing the roll of film. I love shooting analog because it makes me think more before each shot, and all the details from the choice of roll, develop times and agitations, until the moment I grab the roll film from the dryer and finally scan the images I had in my mind a few days ago.
